Ask Joe Torre

Joe Torre Steven Senne / AP

After he spent 12 seasons in pinstripes as manager of the New York Yankees, it's odd to see Joe Torre suited up in Dodger blue. But if he brings his winning ways to L.A., the new threads will fit him just fine. Torre, who managed the Yankees to a dozen straight playoffs appearances and four World Series titles, escaped the Bronx Zoo this off-season, and even led his new team to an exhibition tour of China this spring. Torre's Dodgers have a young but talented nucleus that could bring the baseball buzz back to Tinseltown; use the form below to submit your questions for Joe Torre, then look for the upcoming interview in TIME Magazine.

    Joe,

Now that you've had a chance to see how things work, will you try to instill any of the Yankee philopsy / traditions in to the guys here in LA?

Like the facial hair issue for example.

  • 4

Whose cooler you or Derek Jeter? For my money its you.

  • 5

Hey Joe, I am curious as to what you see are the main hurdles in transitioning from the AL to the NL. Do you see the hitting, pitching, and talent in general stacking up the same?

  • 6

After such a great run with the Yankees, why did you sign with another team in a big media town? Did you feel there was some unfinished part to your career? Did you think you ended with New York on a sore note?

  • 7

    Coach Torre,

Do you feel that you may need to alter your managment style to cater to a different organization and younger team whoses focus seems to be toward establishing a foundation, rather than "a zero sum approach" of "we either win it all or not win at all"?

  • 8

Hey Joe. We Yankee fans are going to miss you. Are you already back from the trip to China? How was that? You were in Japan last year no? Good luck in the new season in LA..

  • 9

During your time with the Yankess did you believe baseball not having a salary cap was a benefit, hiring some of the top talent available and trying to meld them into one team, or would you have preferred to use home grown players who had a sense of the organization and the goals for the future?

  • 10

How will you adjust your managing style/strategy to work with the type of skill and talent we have here in L.A.? Is small ball the ticket?

  • 11

Did you accidently go to tampa the first day of spring training?

  • 12

Who's the better athlete, Tiger Woods or Derek Jeter?

What is the worst part of your job?

  • 14

Do you have any advice for Joe Girardi to help him deal with the brutal New York media?

  • 15

Was your success with the Yankees due to your effectiveness as a manager or were simply given a much better roster than you had in your three previous jobs as a skipper?

  • 20

While at the ballpark, what makes you most nostalgic for your own early playing days? (i.e. crack of the bat, smell of hot dogs, kids asking for autographs)

  • 21

You followed the Brooklyn Dodgers as a boy. Now you're leading the Los Angeles Dodgers. Is it a dream come true? You're a New York transplant coaching a New York transplant. How weird is that?

  • 22

    Coach-

In your years in New York perhaps your biggest tasks were managing big egos and personalities, and handling the daunting New York media. What do you believe your biggest tasks will be here in Los Angeles managing the Dodgers?

  • 23

With the way the team treated you this offseason, will you have any problems with attending Joe Torre Day at Yankee Stadium (well, the new Yankee Stadium)?

  • 24

Are you looking forward to coming back to New York in May when the Dodgers visit Shea Stadium play the Mets? Not only did you manage the Yankees against the Mets many times during interleague and World Series play, but you also have a history with the Mets (player 1975-1977, manager 1977-1981), so I'm thinking it's going to be quite interesting for the fans and for you when the Shea Stadium PA announcer goes "Here is the starting lineup for Joe Torre's Los Angeles Dodgers..."

  • 25

    Joe,

The Dodgers have not won a world championship since 1988. What do you think it will take to win a World Series with this organization.
