How do you feel about Lynda Barry's rather unflattering portrayal of you in her comic autobiography? Does it convince you that, when you're famous, nothing is ever really safely "presonal"?

Your show is fundamentally about what it means to be human, why does the title suggest it is only relevant to American life?

TAL has taught many people to recognize how interesting and lovable ordinary people and their ordinary stories can be. You even present yourself as a similarly ordinary person by sharing your own stories from time to time.

1. Being aware of your popularity, do you feel like a celebrity? Is there a part of yourself you have to put away nowadays to continue to deliver in the same humble tone that makes us proud to know and love your show?

2. How many hours per week do you currently spend watching television?

3. I learned about The Dishes, a Chicago punk band, from an interlude in one of your episodes. Do a lot of musicians and labels ask you to use their music on your show? Are your decisions based on your personal taste?

4. Are you a visual artist in any way?

5. Describe a hard day at the office.

6. What do you do to blow off steam? Any guilty pleasures?

Thank you!

Hi Ira!
Love the podcast, I listen faithfully every week. I was wondering if you ever hear a guest say something and in your mind, you're thinking "Oh THAT would be great for the credits for Tory Malatea? I always listen to the end just for that!
Thanks,
Lynda

Is making the TV show different than you thought it would be? Harder? Easier? Also, who are your favorite bands?

After growing up with a father in sales radio (reading commercials but doing very well with it, I have to say), what made you decide to go into this particular "brand" of radio--to find the hearts of American people through interviews and stories, discovering what we all have in common?

I was wondering -- Who is an interviewer (in any medium -- radio, TV, print, webzines etc.) that you consistantly enjoy either in terms of their style, the story they facilitate being told or their ability to ask thought provoking questions?
