We had sold are home early on, and before selling it we called Road Home and asked if we would get the difference if sold early. They said Yes, so we sold (because we had nothing and keeping up with a house and insurance did not sound like a good idea) however now we are back in the system like so many waiting. We have property across the lake now in Pearl River and we are building now after 3 years. We are in a flood zone and would like a grant because we are raising our home 6 feet off the ground. We are told no because we did not apply before the deadline. But they would not let us because they told us we had sold our home early. To me, we have taken the load off of the tax payers by selling our home and having someone take care of it other then the tax payers. Our friends who took the money and kept their homes are keeping them and selling them after 3 years. They are putting the grant money in their pockets and moving away from St. Bernard Parish, they are coming out ahead. I don't understand this! Why is it that we can't get into the grant program for elvation of our home. We need that extra money just as much as the people who have received grant money and are not even living in their homes. Please write me back, I know I am just one person, and really I'm getting very tired of the fight. If I knew what I know now I would have moved out of Louisiana. Think about it, some para-educators become teachers but if they can't afford to live on the salary that they're getting, they have to move on to another job, thus we have lost another of what could have been a good teacher.
