In 2004, the oil tycoon backed a little-known political group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, that ended up helping sink John Kerry's candidacy for President. Now T. Boone Pickens is back in the political arena, as an environmentalist: the self-made Oklahoman billionaire has bought ads on TV stations nationwide, urging political leaders to refocus on developing renewable energy sources and reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
