Ask Mickey Rourke
Lucas Jackson / Reuters
After an acclaimed acting debut in films like Body Heat and 9 1/2 Weeks, Mickey Rourke sank below Hollywood's radar: the former boxer returned to fighting and appeared in a string of widely panned, rarely seen films. Now, with his lead role in 2008's The Wrestler, Rourke has made one of the biggest comebacks in movies, foreshadowed by strong roles in recent hits Sin City and Man on Fire. Fresh from a Golden Globe win for The Wrestler, Rourke was also nominated for an Oscar on Jan. 22 and will appear next year in Sin City 2 as well the Iron Man sequel. Submit your questions for Mickey Rourke here; then look for the interview in an upcoming issue of TIME magazine.

What is the Worst Part of being a "come back" story?

Mickey:
Congratulations on "The Wrestler". So much has already been written about the comeback. Unfortunately, I have not seen much reference to Barfly. I have to say I think you were awesome in that movie as well. That said, did you ever feel as though your talents, much like Henry Chinaski from Barfly, were being wasted through self-destructive behavior? Was it too much too fast, demons from the past, or just "it's better to burn out than fade away?" No matter he answer, I can tell you that everyone loves the underdog and there are plenty of folks eating crow. Enjoy your time in the sun your earned it!

Mickey... What effect, if any, did Angel Heart have on you? A classic, in my mind...all the elements--for mixed genres-great actors...Worth a response?

6
Did you really cut yourself with a razor for that scene in The Wrestler?
-
7
What roles would you like to take on now, and where would you like your career to go at this point?
-

Hey Mickey, You would be PERFECT to play 'Dog the bounty hunter' if their was ever a movie adaptation of the show. Have you heard of the guy? If so can you please call one of your directing pals and get the ball rolling on the project!!?? Do you have that kind of Hollywood power now?

Mickey - Your performance in The Wrestler was tough, touching and totally fantastic, but why is everyone, including you, acting as if you fell off the face of the Hollywood sign and the Earth the past decade? Not only have you been working with marquee directors like Tony Scott in 2005's Domino, but you've been turning in top notch performances in films like 2000's Animal Factory, Sean Penn's The Pledge from 2001, Once Upon a Time in Mexico from 2003 and 2005's Sin City, both directed by Robert Rodriguez. To paraphrase LL Cool J, The Wrestler wasn't a comeback, 'cause you never went away. What's up? Didn't you like those movies or your performance in them?

Heya Mickey - congrats on your latest success.
I'm curious to know which artists out there you'd like to work with and why. Also, I noticed you were thanked in the credits for 'The Thin Red Line' ..can you elaborate on this for us? Thanks and good luck for the future.

Mickey, I have been a fan for years. Given how excellent some of your recent performances have been, like Marv, does it seem bemusing to you that a particular performance such as that of "The Wrestler" should get so much attention?
