Ask Candace Parker

It was a big year for the forward from the University of Tennessee: in 2008, after winning her second NCAA championship, Candace Parker was chosen as the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, joining the Los Angeles Sparks. She went on to become the first woman to win both the WNBA's Rookie of the Year and MVP honors -- not to mention a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing. This year, however, could be even bigger: just weeks after giving birth on May 13 to her daughter with Minnesota Timberwolves forward Shelden Williams, Parker is plotting her return to WNBA dominance. She starts training with the Sparks in July. Submit your questions for Candace Parker below, then read the interview in an upcoming issue of TIME magazine.

My family moved to Northern Virginia from Knoxville three years ago. We had season tickets for Lady Vols Basketball until we moved, we miss seeing you play. We bought tickets to your game against the Washington Mystics on July 11th, we've heard you're expected to return in July some time. How about Saturday, July 11th for your first game back? Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

Hey Candice, love your game, but why do you think womens basketball is not really catching on to the masses (or do you)? And do you think this is because of the "lack" of physical play (compared to the NBA) or the "lack" of excitement "dunking" or that it could be we ultimately living in a sexist or simply male dominate society?

I understand that the WNBA is a newer league and does not have the same fan base as the NBA, but the work that players like you contribute on and off the court and in neighborhoods across the country deserves salary recognition. Recently, I noticed that the highest paid player in the WNBA earned $100,000 in 2008. What can fans do (other than attending games) to urge the WNBA to increase the salary for its players?
