Ask Dr. Mehmet Oz
Fabrice Trombert / Retna / Corbis
Before being tapped as The Oprah Winfrey Show's resident doctor, Oz was a well-known cardiothoracic surgeon who invented several medical devices including one that enables damaged hearts to pump blood. As a professor of surgery at Columbia University, he stresses the importance of alternative healing techniques such as yoga and massage to complement traditional methods. Though his run on Oprah ended in May, he will continue giving out medical advice on the The Dr. Oz Show, which premieres in September. Dear Dr. Oz
I have a friend who has a daughter that is 31 years old and in february of this year had a baby and 8 days later had a heart attack, which resulted in her having to have four stints put into her arteries. She is now after going thru several medications, and trips to the hospital being told by her cardiologist that she needs to have a procedure which involves scrapping of the heart muscles. Oh, and by the way Dr. Oz, she suffers from ANXIETY! Not knowing her full medical history and case file; What advice can you offer her and the family? Her symptoms, include fatigue, racing heart when she is standing and talking, and her blood pressure ranges from high to low depending on the prescribed medicines. She is currently taking Xanax and Zoloft for her anxiety. Please Help! -
