Dear Jane,
It's not the intensive study of endangered animals that makes you stand out. It's the purity of passion that you work with, the kindness that you are capable of and the all-inclusive vision that wants this planet to be beautiful despite all the cruel tentacles of development that are spreading and making this world look poorer day by day. I respect you as a good and pure soul who has abundant energy to go beyond the confines of a successful profession. I would like to know you personally but my life conditions don't permit me to dream about any such thing. Good luck. Lots of good luck.

Have you observed that there is an appearance of deviant behavior in chimps, under conditions of excessive population growth in limited space, such as was found in the '60's NIH study of Calhoun's mice?

What do you feel is the main influence on the chimpanzee family groups by the females? Do they tend to be peacemakers/mediators as human females tend to be (in addition to raising the youngsters), or are they pretty much relegated to the later?

I understand that humans and chimpanzees share a large percent of the same genetic codes. Yet we don't look or act that similar. My question is how and where did the break in the genetic codes happen that make humans and chimpanzees so different yet so much the same?

I've watched some of your documentaries, and I am amazed at how you've kept track of all the different family members through the years. How do you come up with the names for each of them? They seem to really fit their names (i.e. Flint, Flo - those are two I recall from past shows.)

Have you seen any specific changes humans have made that give you hope for our global community (humans and other animals) and our environment? If not, any suggestions?

Dr. Goodall, as an animal welfare activist and former president of Advocates for Animals in Scotland, would you consider campaigning against the use of animals in medicine, research, farming, etc., in the United States? I think many Americans would like to hear what you have to say and would back you up.

Dear Dr. Goodall,

What was your insparation for wanting to live with the Chimpanzees?

Were you pleased that you acomplished it?

Do you ever wonder where you would be if you never came up with the thought of doing it in the first place?
